20) The United States government defines an individual as unemployed if the person

1. works part-time but needs full-time work.
2. is without a job, but is looking for work.
3. wants a job, would is not searching because he or she thinks none is available.
4. does not hold a paying job.
5. has been recently fired.

The government requires an unemployed person one that is currently looking for work because otherwise people who chose not to work would be included in the unemployment rate.
